Frequently asked questions
How long is the Air Force PT test prep program?
Four weeks, five days a week - build, build, peak, deload.
Does it cover the alternate components?
Yes, the whole menu: the 1.5-mile run and the 20 m HAMR shuttle, hand-release and standard pushups, the plank and the cross-leg reverse crunch. The point is to find out which pairing scores best for you before test day rather than after.
Do I need a barbell for this one?
No. A pullup bar, a dip station and a measured route are all it takes.
What scores does it train toward?
Excellent is 90 points and above, Satisfactory is 75 to 89.9. The component standards are on the page: 1.5-mile under 10:30 or 12:00, 35 or 23 hand-release pushups, 57 or 39 one-minute pushups, 42 or 36 cross-leg reverse crunches, a 2:45 or 2:05 plank, and 80 or 64 HAMR shuttle lengths.
How are the rep targets set?
You test first, then every prescribed set is a calculated percentage of the max you actually recorded. Test 18 pullups and you get sets sized for an 18-pullup athlete, and they climb as the weeks progress.
